What is the Carrizo-Wilcox aquifer?

The Carrizo-Wilcox Aquifer is a large underground water supply in Texas that provides water to over 60 counties and about 12 million homes. It stretches from the Rio Grande in south Texas to parts of Louisiana and Arkansas and is made up of sand, gravel, silt, clay, and lignite layers up to 10,000 feet thick. The aquifer is recharged by rainfall and streams that cross the outcrop.

Saving water starts with a single step. By building simple water-wise habits into our daily routines at home, we can make a meaningful impact—one drop at a time. Here’s a few pointers:

Did you know? The total length of pipeline in our water system is equal to the distance from our main office in Bastrop, Texas all the way to the tip of Maine!
That’s approximately 2,300 miles of water infrastructure – all working to bring clean, reliable water to our members.
