Winter Storm Safety

-With the Winter Storm Warning that has been issued for our area, remember to protect:

-Pets
-Plants
-Pipes

A few helpful reminders:

Water pipes in unheated areas of the home can freeze and burst when the outside temperature reaches 20°F or below. Consider wrapping heat tape or a pipe sleeve around exposed pipes before the weather turns cold.
Open cabinet doors inside the home where pipes are located on exterior walls.
Slowly drip faucets while outdoor temperatures are below freezing.

Remove and drain garden hoses. Low-cost, insulating materials can be found at local home improvement or retail stores to cover outdoor faucets.

Make sure you know where your meter is located and how to shut the water off in the event of pipes bursting and/or leaking on the customer side.
